When is Recognition Necessary?
If a decision was made by a foreign court, it does not have automatic effects in another country. For it to produce legal effects, it must undergo recognition in the competent court:
- Brazil: Superior Tribunal de Justiça (STJ - Superior Court of Justice)
- Portugal: Tribunal da Relação (Court of Appeal)
